  • port and starboard marks pg 39

  • you will be sitting in a classroom with other participants for the exam session
  • you will be getting on and off a jet ski and sitting on a jet ski with the Trainer
  • so the Trainer, staff and other participants of the course feel comfortable and at ease

If you attend wearing inappropriate attire, you may be asked to reschedule your course. Inappropriate attire might include swimwear, swimsuits, bathers, bikini tops or extremely tight fitting or revealing clothing.

What to bring?

  3.    Hat and sunglasses
  4.    Pad and pen
  5.    Photo ID
  6.   Your Boat Licence (if you are not doing the combined course on the same day)

How will I be sitting on the Jet Ski with the Trainer?

During the practical part of the course, you will be sitting in close proximity with the Trainer. This is, you will be steering and sitting at the front of the jet ski and the Trainer will be sitting behind you.

You will be both be fully clothed and wearing a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) / life jacket.

If you are uncomfortable with this, you are asked to speak up immediately before commencing the practical or at any stage during the practical.

Communication on the Jet Ski

Speaking on the water can be difficult at times and being on a jet ski is no different. In order to communicate with you, the Trainer may:

  • signal that they wish to speak with you by tapping the top of your arm
  • signal that they wish to speak with you by tapping the outside of your upper thigh
  • not have time to signal to you, if you are in danger (ie heading towards to a mangrove, submerged log, channel marker or other water vessel), and may withdraw the key from the jet ski by leaning over you or pulling the key lanyard sharply

We encourage you to speak with the Trainer if you have any doubts as to how they will communicate with you while you are both sitting on the jet ski during the practicing and demonstrating of skills.

The required skills that will need to be demonstrated will be explained to you prior to getting on the jet ski.
